Practical Principals 22 – 22 Tools. 44 Minutes.
Delayed a week after we recorded it due to life and work getting in the way of editing and posting, Melinda and I are proud to present a geekier episode of PP where we talk about the 22 tech tools that help improve our work and personal lives.
Best of all? We get through all of them in less than 44 minutes.
Enjoy!

You should really share these with your teachers! I just filled a 3rd flashdrive today and was looking for just a tool like Dropbox. I was just checking my google reader and noticed you too had a new podcast. So while I listened to you share your new tech tools, I explored some of your suggestions. I like it much better than my google docs (I think). Can you give me some pros and cons for using one over the other?
Hey Scott and Melinda,
How about some talk about Blackberry? I understand you’re Apple fans, but near complete omission of bb and it’s potential for changing the daily lives of principals is a travesty! My bb does nearly everything an iPhone does plus it’s got a better camera, a full qwerty key board, and wifi.
Give blackberry its due! There is no way it has less potential than a 4×6 picture printer for changing daily tasks!
Geoff
Thanks for sharing this list – I agree heartily with your recommendations.
My picks and comments, from your list:
21. Twitter – constantly
20. Headphones – I like the iPhone earbuds. I wish the mic worked with a computer.
19. Dropbox – I mounted iDisk (via MobileMe) on both my laptop and (Windows) desktop.
18. Double monitors – had to take one home, as I already have two computers on my desk, and three screens was a bit much. Handy, though.
17.Google Reader – daily
16. Netbook/portable laptop – my MacBook Pro is indispensable!
15. Evernote – great for saving emails for future reference, too
14. scanner – I use a Brother multi-function color laser with a duplexing scanner. Huge, but incredibly useful.
13. Tweetie – agreed – I use Tweetie constantly. The list support in Tweetie 2 is nice.
7. Remember the Milk – I used RTM for years (and wrote some of the first GTD tutorials for it, which are now offline). I use OmniFocus now, both the Mac and iPhone versions.
4. Delicious – I still use it, but Twitter and Google Reader have reduced the need for Delicious
3. Tweetdeck – Twhirl still does the job for me, though it’s showing its age
1. iPhone – The Exchange/MobileMe support is killer. I could not schedule my workday without the iPhone calendar. I can always answer the “are you available at…” question on the spot.
Great list, and great podcast – thanks!

Oh my gosh! I just got these comments in my reader and didn’t realize you guys had commented. Marca, I guess everyone knows about dropbox now:) Eduleadership – LOVE LOVE LOVE your list! Thanks for commenting:)
Geoff – Scott will have to be our expert with the BB. I bet he could show you so love in that area! I have no idea. I sometimes have blackberrty envy, especially since I have seen some pink ones:)
If you are still listening after our long hiatus…THANKS!
